Crawfish Season...

Lucky. People who live in New Orleans are lucky. We are SURROUNDED by the best food, the best restaurants and the freshest seafood. Although we do not get graced by leaves turning in the fall and snow in the winter we do get our own "specials" seasons.... Shrimp, Oyster, Crawfish and Crab. (and Hurricane, but we don't talk about that for another few months...)

Right now...it's crawfish season. And as my 11 year old nephew said on Friday..."I feel sorry for people who don't live here!" as he was sucking the heads on the 2 lbs of crawfish he had just been served!! Soon we all will be invited to a crawfish boil where we dine on these critters by the pound. It's a rite of passage when you can peel your own crawfish and then when you are old enough enjoy a cold beer with your crawfish!

So folks, if you know anyone from New Orleans you know that events here in the Crescent City revolve around food. We talk about food, we dream about sauces and we revile in our cocktails. So, invite your momma and 'em and have a boil!

Yes, I saw a pig flying, hell has frozen over and I dreamed of Buddy D in a dress....that just means ONE thing. SAINTS ARE IN THE SUPER BOWL. Yes, our dreams have come true and it is a great day to be alive. You could hear the fireworks, horns honking and people screaming from miles around last night about 9:20pm.

With the weight of the world in his hands (or at the tip of his toes) #5 Garrett Hartley kicked a game winning 3 pointer in between the pipes! He kicked up into the SUPER BOWL! Boy what a night. With tears streaming down our faces we high fived, hugged, jumped and screamed!

Get ready for Super Bowl XVIV with Saints Platter! yes, I said Super Bowl and SAINTS in the same sentence. Oh what a glorious day!

Paper Order Deadline is November 30 (note cards, notepads, luggage tags, stickers, grocery lists)
Plate and Bowl Sets, Platters & Trays Order Deadline is November 30 with approval deadline of December 4th
Christmas Card order deadline is December 9th with approval deadline of December 11th
Address Stamper order deadline is December 11th

If orders are not approved by December 15th (or date stated above), Christmas delivery CANNOT be promised!

from drawing to final...

I just finished this little guy today.... isn't he fun!! As I was closing the file and looking at all the steps I took to design him, I thought it would be fun to share!

I think I drew this little speed Racer back in April.... I draw a lot of things on paper first and then scan them into my drawing programs. My original drawing is Step 1. Pencil on paper.... back to basics!

I then do a quick sketch of it on my computer and fill it in with color to test if I will like how it will come out. That is Step 2. My drawing software makes that step easy....it traces my pencil lines and re-draws it for me. The result is a very quick, almost messy, thick line drawing.

But that look just isn't my style. So when I am confident with the design and I know what changes I want to make to my original, I get my handy dandy stylus and pad out. I then cleanly redraw the design, this time straight in my drawing software. This is always the final drawing. From here I can adjust curves and proportions. As you can see in Step 3 that the black bounding lines are clean and uniform. Voila! Ready to be put on anything! In this case, I used him on invites for a 2 year old little boy! His Momma is getting him a matching plate and bowl set too.... shh... don't tell him!!

Dear Princess of Paper,

I created you over 6 years ago, you are my 4th child! I have seen you grow leaps and bounds and have been proud of all of our success. I have designed over 100 plus designs for you, introduced new products, we have shipped or delivered almost 4,000 orders! Wow what an accomplishment!

I feel that I just need get this off my chest...that my family comes first! I do often forget that and I do pay the price. As much as I love to sit in front of this beautiful Mac (that we earned together!!), I can't do it all, all the time! I just need to get this straight! But with all 3 kids in school this year, I promise we will be back on track soon!

Just when I think things are going in the right direction, bam....someone has fever! We are into our 2nd week of school and already have 1 kid with strep! I swear, its been one-thing-after-another!!

So today is the day. I'll start playing catch-up today! Wish me luck!

In just a 12 short days all 3 kids will be dressed and ready for school. Summer will be over and it will be reading and writing and 'rithmatic in my house. I miss them so much - not being with me all day.... *sniff* This year is different from any other year - Max, Grace AND Jack will be in school. Jack will be in PreK 3 - all day, every day! Being the youngest, he sees all that M & G do and cannot wait to be at the same school with them. He loves his uniform and his backpack and loves to show you his new school shoes.... I will probably have a break down on his first day of school!!

But the good thing is that in 3 1/2 year this is the first time I will have my time back. The house will be quiet and I can take all day to design! Design new stuff for all of you! First on my list is Holiday Cards!! I cannot wait to see what I come up with this year!

squeeze bottle idea!

Just recently while shopping at Bed, Bath & Beyond I got a call from my wonderful mother asking me to pick up some clear squeeze bottles.... Well...ok, WHY? She had decided to use them for all of her condiments and needed more for her BBQ sauce and olive oil. I thought it sounded great so I picked myself up a set! I know this isn't a new idea because WE ALL have seen those fabulous cooks on TV use them....and have seen them in various BBQ and seafood restaurants.

Since they are clear there really is no need to label the bottles, but they would be so much better if i did! I decided that I couldn't just use my dymo labeler to do the job....I made the cutest vinyl labels for the bottles! Great huh....

Yesterday I decided to cook the best meal ever....red gravy with meatballs, stuffed artichokes, and a wonderful salad with creole tomatoes, blanched asparagus and cucumbers - your mouth is watering.... and yes I am Italian! WELL....using my squeeze bottle of Olive Oil was so ingenious! No mess, no glub glub and getting olive oil on every leaf of my artichokes was beautiful!

What do you think?? I may have these at the holiday shows this year!!

i am still trying to get things back up and running. one step forward, two steps back.... but i hope to have it all done soon! this has been more traumatic than i ever thought it would be!

you get used to something then its gone. i never realized how many programs i use day in and day out and i doing nothing but downloading this program, downloading that driver making sure it all works seamlessly.

but the new mac is cool. so far so good... and my kids love to make funny faces in the "photo booth"

so...life aint so bad, its just in all in one place yet!

So, I took a week off and took my kids to my sisters house in The Woodlands. It was our first "hurri-cation" and we are very blessed to have come home to a undamaged house and POWER! I don't think my house lost power throughout the whole storm. My husband stayed behind and ended up cleaning up friends and neighbors houses.

My sister and I took some time to design lots of new holiday photo cards and baby announcements. I have posted the new baby announcements on a great new page and plan on adding the new holiday cards online this week!

Thanks for being patient while I have been out of town. I will be getting back to email and proofs tomorrow!!

Hey, if you have gotten to this blog, that means you have probably been to my new site. You like? I am paving the way for my e-commerce site, which will be up within the month.

I have simplified my menu and made my page wider so I can showcase more items on a page. My goal is to make princessofpaper.com easier for everyone to use and navigate. You may see things being moved around until I am happy with the layout and when I am confident it will work well with the e-commerce part of the site. If you cannot find something or you find a dead link, PLEASE let me know!
